HLCCA 2009 Conference Friday Night Auction

It's time again to start planning the Friday night auction for this year's HLCCA conference. Once again, Sid and Maryann Cannon are coordinating the auction. Here are some of the details:

  1. There will be a limit of 200 items/lots, available on a"first come, first served" basis.

  2. Items being shipped to Pittsburgh by non-attending HLCCA members may not have a reserve, and must be received by June 6, 2009.

  3. Please, no chipped, cracked or damaged items.

  4. An auction preview site (http://justdishesdinnerware.com/hlccafriauction2009) will be available before the conference.

  5. The cut-off date for consigned items is June 15, 2009, to allow enough time to print the auction catalog.
The Friday night auction will be upon us sooner than you think (July 10, 2009), so the sooner you sign up the better, since there is very limited space and your items will available for previewing longer than in past years. When you send your list of items, please include:

  • A complete description of the item(s) (i.e., name, pattern, year, etc.);

  • Any special information about the piece(s);

  • The reserve price, if any; and

  • A digital photo of the item(s) for the website/auction catalog.
Please email your information to mcannon1007@comcast.net or mail your information/item(s) to Sid & Maryann Cannon, 1007 Main St., Wellsville, OH 43968. You may call Sid and Maryann for more information at (330) 843-3989.

The New HLCCA Membership Ornaments Have Arrived!

The new 2009 HLCCA Turquoise membership ornaments have arrived and shipping will begin shortly! Monthly shipments will go out to members at the end of each month (starting at the end of January) as current members renew their memberships for 2009, or as new members join.

Single memberships receive one ornament and couple memberships receive two ornaments. Each year, a different color will be selected for the membership ornament.

The HLCCA membership ornament tradition was introduced as a Conference exclusive during the 2007 HLCCA Conference, with the release of the first-edition Plum ornament. The first general-release membership ornament followed in 2008 with the HLCCA Cinnabar ornament. This year, the tradition continues with the limited-edition membership ornament in Turquoise. All ornaments have a burnished gold HLCCA logo on the front, with burnished gold text and date on the reverse.

Can You Help Us with Grant Applications?

Among the major purposes of the HLCCA is to educate its members about HLC wares and their history. Boardmember David Schaefer has done a little on-line research into the possibility of obtaining National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grants, which could help to defray some costs for our annual conference and quarterly magazine, The Dish.

If you have experience in preparing such grant applications, the Board would appreciate your assistance. Please contact us at blog@hlcca.org. Thanks!
